I am an Ethiopian. I have studied, living and working in Ethiopia. I joined the journalism profession to fulfil my inner urge to make the unheard voices of women louder. To turn my interest to practice, I studied Gender and Journalism & Communications. Over the last 12 years, I have worked as a journalist, and have also functioned as an international NGO programme head and as a teacher, on a regular and volunteer basis. Currently, I am a society page editor with the Ethiopian Herald – the first English daily newspaper produced in the country. My interests are women and children and gender issues. As much as possible, I try to cover stories from the gender angle and to put women’s voices in the stories. I also encourage journalists to include women in their stories. I am a team player, good at writing and editing, and able to work under pressure and to meet deadlines. As of August 2014, I am also vice chairperson of the Ethiopian Media Women Association Board for the coming two years.
